Seeing It For Myself
By John Kubicek
"I'll believe it when I see it." It's one of the more famous of quotes, or cliché’s. It applies to those that don't believe in something, such as UFO's, or maybe, miracles... Or, say, anything. In fact, it is one of the most frequent things that people say when it comes down to becoming Believers in Christ. In fact, they can even see it on the news, or while watching the 700 Club, but they will still say, "How come it never happens for me? Why doesn't God see the plight I am in, and send an angel or something!"
I am sure that would be the attitude of many people, especially at this time of the year. It sure is wonderful to see things happening that touch our hearts, and maybe even help our eyes well up. I had that happen to me just the other day, when I saw the news clip about people at a Starbucks drive-up window ALL paying for the person's order behind them, which I put up on youtube (see it here). This was great, seeing people doing that for others, all anonymously. "Merry Christmas". they all say to the person at the window, "pass it on back to the guy behind me."
Again, that nagging thought... I always see it happen for others, and I am always very happy for them. I am happy to share those stories with others. And why do other people win the lotto, but not ME? It's true, isn't it, we'd all like to see it for ourselves, and we'd like to be the "lotto-winner".
Good. Now you understand where a whole lot of people are coming from. It's a tragedy, but yes, too many of us are inflicted with the disease of not believing until we see it. But, what do we do when we actually see it for ourselves? I'll get to that, but first, let me tell you about my embarrassing situation this morning.
Last night at work, I quickly checked my bank balance to see how much money I had left in the account, while crossing my fingers that I'd have enough funds available to grab some groceries, for my dinner today, on the way home. Cool, it showed I still had enough in the accont to get the ingredients I needed for my goolash casserole. It was not much, but I knew that $7 and some change would get me what I needed, along with the bottle of Dr. Pepper for work Thursday night.
I stopped at the store and kept within the budget. The order came to the $7 and change. I ran the debit card through; insufficient funds. No problem, we'll just take out that onion.... Oops, still insufficient. By this time, several women had come to this one lane that was open. I decided to delete another item, and told them I was very sorry for the delay. One last try without one more item, still a no-go. I apologized to the store clerk, and told her I figured the car insurance must have been deducted after I had checked my balance.
I was so embarrassed. And, I was looking at a day when I may not find too much to eat when I got home. However, that is when it happened, and at first, I didn't catch it. The lady behind me told the clerk to add my items to her order. I had a hearing double-take. Yes, it was true, the lady behind me, who spent an agonizing few minutes waiting while I kept swiping my debit card.... well, out of the good spirit of her heart, really did it, she had paid for my order. And she said, "Merry Christmas!"
Yes, I cried all the way home. I saw it for myself. One of these days, I hope to be able to help somebody else see it for his or her self.
So, what do we do when we actually see it for ourselves? Pass it on, like they did at Starbucks. _________________ Help johnny2k.com stay online - Visit the "Powered By the Lord" store! |
